Director: Elle Callahan
Chris worked closely with director Elle Callahan at his Hollywood art studio to design a terrifying creature, the HISJI, for her feature-length horror film HeadCount. One of the main hurdles Chris had to design for was achieving a highly elongated and emaciated creature. Chris’s solution was to design a puppet-rigged suit, with the head and upper torso extending out in front of the performer’s torso, allowing the head to be puppeted.

Chris Friend: VFX Supervisor
This is the VFX supervisor brief and VFX storyboards for Vacation Theory’s proposed spot for Braveix dog medication. Chris excels at conciseness for his VFX Supervisor’s suggestions through storyboards, bringing everybody involved to a clear understanding.
Drawing and painting are genuinely at the core of Chris’ being. He has been drawing fantastic, far-out imagery since before he could even walk. His father, an avid fan of the fantasy painter Frank Frazetta had a prized book of paintings. Chris would have to wash his hands before he was allowed to look at it.
Chris began junior college at Orange Coast College at seventeen, taking painting and life drawing classes. He would later transfer to the classical-based Laguna School of Art and Design, learning classical oil painting techniques, and finally to ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, refining his classical drawing and painting skills.
Chris owes his success as a visual effects supervisor and director to his ability to storyboard and draw highly specific concept designs for sets, costumes, and props.
